Welcome to the Wisdom Wheel Law of Right-Action # 09

Right Action is grounded is soul knowledge, not the man-made world’s aims or values. Very few have the patience for the waiting and becoming that precedes Right Action…

Introduction to the Law of Right-Action

Time to take up the ninth Law of Right Action. This Law anchors the East Direction on the Wisdom Wheel. This is where we sit each month on the full moon to initiate each study cycle. Four Laws anchor the Four Directions:

Trust in the South

Higher Purpose in the West

Integrity in the North

Notice the pairs. Higher Purpose is the Balance Law for Right Action. Trust balances Integrity. When a strong sense of purpose guides us, Right Action is easier. It’s also more determined and deliberate. People can feel that we mean it, and will do it.

Make a large Wheel with four stones (of any size) this month. If you haven’t yet laid out a circle big enough to sit inside, do it as a Right Action ceremony, solo or with a friend(s). Use a compass to be sure you’ve placed the four stones in the proper Directions. (A person can sit in each Direction if there are five of you. Take turns going into the center, from the East.)

This ceremony is best done outdoors, in a beautiful unspoiled spot, so Nature can commune with you. If the weather is bad, you can do it indoors. Plan to spend at least 15 minutes in your circle, meditating on each Direction. The more time the better. You can smudge yourself and the space to enhance the sacredness of the experience. An item symbolic of the elements of each Direction can also be included: a candle in the East, small bowl of water in the South, the stone itself represents Earth in the West, and a feather can stand for Wind/Air in the North. Write down what comes to you, during or immediately afterwards. Refer to it later to see what happens to any prayer or intention you are carrying or have spoken as you entered the circle.

Ideally, you should sit circle once a week, as the moon phase changes, even if it’s only a few moments beside a small personal Wheel, or inside a big Wheel or at the Wheel of a study group meeting. Working with the Directions is the way to have intimate knowledge of them. Note what you feel and think as you face each one. Turn slowly, clockwise, to give each one its’ due.

Notice what comes from and goes towards them energetically. Remember to allow for mental, emotional, physical, intuitive and spiritual relevance. When you’re finished, close the space with gratitude, and put your stones away. It helps to have a regular place and time for this practice, but it can be done anywhere, even without the stones. The circle will stay with you, like a protecting shield, when you honor it regularly. Let it help you maintain Awareness of your own sphere within all the spheres...

The Wheel reminds us there are right times for action, as well as right applications of energy. The seasons of the year and the shifting sequence of priorities all combine to contribute their influences, as we travel the Wheel of Life. We can spare ourselves (and others) a lot of unnecessary pain and effort if we learn to respect the Law of Right Action and Divine Energy. This Law teaches us to ‘go with the Flow.’  The Wheel can help you understand the Flow and how it works in your life. Be conscious of the Direction it is moving towards, each day, each week and each year. Move with the moon. Life is movement, movement is Life.

On a higher level of consciousness, we ‘know’ all of this. The Wheel and the Laws help make it more explicit so we can articulate and share it. This improves the odds that we will benefit from Right Action with others.  We can plan and predict with greater reliability instead of believing in random chaos and meaningless.

When the Wheel came into my life a decade ago, I never imagined it would discipline me so completely, but it has done a wonderful job of gently restructuring my life, by informing and reforming me. Everything has changed since I woke up to what we are connecting with daily. Raising our consciousness is essential to spiritual growth and development, and the Wheel provides visual reminders of where you are in the Process in relation to everyone else and All That Is. Comprehending the Great Dial of Life is the key to understanding Right Action, inside and out.

It’s one thing to be busy doing, it’s another to know what to do, and when to do it so you don’t wear yourself out. By tuning in, to universal order and rhythm, and consciously working with the Laws of Nature, your quality of life will improve. I credit Wheel work with my safety and success in large and small decisions. My move to the Island , and meeting my partner Malcolm, are among the many other things that have gone well because of its stabilizing influences. Paying attention to the Law of Right Action is a bit like having the protection of extra ‘insurance’ coverage.

Right Action is in the East, the place of Fire, Mind, masculine and Warrior energy. When we use our heads to make decisions, we are drawing from these energies, but we still need to scan the other quadrants, for additional input. Incorporate heart and gut wisdom, as well as spiritual guidance, and your actions will be blessed. Follow the clockwise route we take with each Law as we study it; going from the East to the South, through the West to North as you deliberate your options for action.

Traditionally a medicine person takes four days to give an answer to a petitioner. One day is given to each Direction. This gives Creator time to respond to the request. Although the Wheel can be used to solve problems, it is a truth that must be lived, to reap its true benefits. But if you only read about the Wheel, it’s like working the intellect in the East, but ignoring the felt wisdom from the other Directions.

Be wiser about your motives.  What would the world be like if every action we took was motivated by Love instead of the usual cocktail of fear, greed, envy or lust? Try linking Right Action with Love and Higher Purpose for the next four weeks and see what a difference it makes.

Many blessings, Malcolm & Cynthia Davidson
