Welcome to the Wisdom Wheel Law of Trust # 10

Can you Trust these people? If a sudden fire broke out, who would risk their life to pull you to safety? Would you risk your life for anyone in this room? For everyone in this room? Is it easier to risk our lives than to Trust others with our truth? …

Welcome to Trust, the tenth Law on the Wisdom Wheel. Trust anchors the South Direction, the place of Children, Teachers, emotions and the heart among other things. When sitting or standing in the place of Trust on the Wheel, you are facing North and the Law of Integrity. This is a powerful pair of Laws. Without Trust there can be no Integrity and vice versa.

Every time there is another scandal in business or politics, remember that the lack of Trust has created the absence of Integrity. Trust is such a short, simple word, yet it represents a principle so important we can hardly bear to live without it. Imagine the worst possible betrayal you could suffer. What would it do to you? Losing our Trust in a spouse, a parent or a friend often triggers a crisis, with anger, depression and the loss of Trust in ourselves and our beliefs.

Imagine how different the world would be if people actually trusted one another. We wouldn’t need lawyers for one thing. Our promise and a handshake would be good enough. Many people feel they can Trust no one these days, not even themselves. They don’t Trust their emotions and are suspicious of every one else. If your Trust is broken in childhood, when it should be forming, you will grow up unable to Trust Teachers, bosses, friends or lovers. What can be done to develop the ability to Trust again later on? And what happens if you never get your Trust back?

Most of us have work to do when it comes to Trust. For the next four weeks, as you carry this Law through the quadrants of the Wheel, make time to think about Trust, feel its absence or presence in others and explore the links between Trust and spirituality.

Reflect on battles between your head and your heart.

Ask your heart whether you Trust fear or Love.

Do you Trust your gut instincts and your intuition or do you override them?

How much Trust do you have in spirit and prayer?

When I was 18 I wanted to take my own life. I’d lost my Trust in my parents and my Faith in goodness and decency. Back then, I was living under the Law of Clarity on the Northwest side of the Wheel, the Place of Affirmation. My crisis was about what and who to put my Trust in. I learned then that I would have to put my Trust in my Self

With Creators’ help, I could solve my problems and learn to Trust my truth, but first I would have to be clear about those truths. This propelled me on a long search, the same one many seekers make. Ultimately I was led to the Wheel, where I found the truths and the tools I needed, so I could Trust again.

Rooting your Trust in something as tangible as the Wheel and the Laws makes life easier. You have a trustworthy representation of reality that you can also see and touch. Best of all, the truths and this Trust can be shared with others. Everyone needs Clarity about meaning and truth. We might give different priorities to the Laws as our positions change while we make our Journeys around the Wheel of Life, but we obviously hold many things in common and this sense of unity is the foundation of community Trust.

As you study this Law, contemplate its opposites, mistrust and distrust. Think of someone who is not trustworthy and why. The Wheel can help you evaluate others before you place your Trust in them.

Try this exercise. Take a picture, or something to symbolize, the person you want to consider. Put it down on the South side of the Wheel. Reflect on their relationships with the things represented in this quadrant.

Someone who has trouble Giving & Receiving (a stepping stone Law in the South) probably has Trust issues, for example. As you think this person’s childhood, look at the lessons they received from parents, Teachers & siblings. What stories have they told you? How do they hold their heart?  Is it open? Closed? Defended? Hardened?  You can use the Wheel like this to examine your own trustworthiness too. Tour all the quadrants.

Remember why Trust is in the South where the heart and the emotions are. All of us have had our hearts broken. It’s what we’ve done about it that makes the crucial difference. Have you worked to heal your emotional wounds? Or are you still hurting, and being hurt, in endless Cycles? The tendency to blame others indicates a refusal to Trust yourself for instance.

Whenever we place responsibility outside ourselves, we are giving our Power to others... Recovery means you’ve regained your Power and your Trust in yourself and are ready to deal with others from a place of repaired confidence and strength.

Consider Trust in relation to its North/South axis on the Wheel. This indicates for example that spiritual growth and development is a primary antidote for emotional hurt. Look at the East/West, Mind/Body axis too. What about Trust and lust for instance? Physical Trust-of-the-Body and mental Trust-in-the-Mind can be revealed in fantasies.

Don’t forget to do a keyword search this month using Trust to review what’s available on this subject. Some of my favorite books include Jack Gibb’s TRUST  and Lee Jampolsky’s The Art of Trust

Last but not least, consider your relationship with the natural world. Do you Trust the Elements? How well do you know them? Our lives depend on Fire, Wind, Water and Earth. Staying close to these fundamental things enables a deeper Trust. In the end, our abilities to handle any crisis situation will reveal what we’ve put our Faith and Trust in.

Many Blessings,

Malcolm & Cynthia Davidson
