Day 142

Every culture has had a religious dimension, which motivates the culture and supplies it with its values and goals. As the word 'religion' has, in popular usage, become associated with an outdated supernatural world, we need to return to the original meaning of the word if there is to be any profitable discussion about the religion of the future.

The Latin word religio meant devotion or commitment, 'a conscientious concern for what really matters.'  The English word, 'religion', while often implying a sense of the sacred, originally referred to the human attitude of devotion. To be religious in any culture is to be devoted to whatever is believed to matter most in life. As we shall see, religion has been usefully defined as 'a total mode of the interpreting and living of life

Daily Guidance:

Welcome to the fourth and final week with this Law. The half full, waxing moon above indicates that it's time to move to the North side of the Wheel today, the place of Wind, breath, air and spirit. Shift your focus to spiritual Causes & Effects and consider, for example, the role religion has played in causing and effecting events in the history of the world.

Welcome to the Wisdom Wheel Law of Cause-and-Effect # 05

Cause & Effect is being played out all around us. Can you link the actual causes to their effects? How much do we know about the lives of the people around us?

Introduction to the Law of Cause-and-Effect

Also known as the principle of Karma and consequences, this Law challenges us to make the effort to understand and acknowledge what is God’s will or Fate, and what is not. We can take some of the blame, and some of the credit, for the way our lives are turning out. It is immensely useful to know the difference between what you can change and what you cannot. Such practical wisdom can save a lot of time and heartache, among other things.

But only a super human could trace all Effects back to their original Causes, so don’t beat yourself up if you fail to master all the linkages. While studying this Law, dedicate some time to working through the outcomes created by some of your personal assumptions. Beliefs are the cause of our behaviors. Knowing which beliefs create which kind of results is crucial to improving your decision-making skills for instance. Use the structure of the Wheel, and the Process (next months’ Law) of going round it clockwise, to surface hidden causes.

For example, to make changes, you must affect the root cause(s) of something, not just its superficial symptoms. Pick a habit you’d like to change, then use the Wheel and the Laws to uncover your own belief(s) about it. You can even apply this approach to learn more about why you are studying the Wheel, for instance. (And the way you’re doing it.)

There are spiritual, physical, emotional and mental Causes & Effects. Some examples:

East Direction – What motivates the Warrior in you? What causes will you fight for?

South Direction – How do your loves and hates (emotions) affect your life?

West Direction – Where do you believe healing and disease come from?

North Direction – Which vision of the future do you hold, a negative or positive one?

If you haven’t read any books about the metaphysical causes for specific physical illnesses, try Louise Hay, Heal Your Body A-Z. Some diagnosis’s might seem a bit simplistic so use them to catalyze additional thoughts about the links between Causes & Effects.

Be prepared for increased Awareness about Right Relationship, Self and Balance too as you examine this Law. By the end of this month, you will have completed six months of Wisdom Wheel study, including the Introductory month. If you have questions about the Wheel, and did not save copies of the early emails, you can review the Intro pages on the website. (Intro Month) We have archived all the Journal pages so you don’t have to.

Let us know what kinds of effects the Wheel and the Laws are having on you. We’re scheduling some workshops for those who live close enough to come to the Island .  Would weekends work for you?

Many blessings, Cynthia and Malcolm Davidson
