Welcome to the Wisdom Wheel Law of Power # 32

Who is the most powerful…?  True Power is not man-made, it comes from Spirit.  Who here is filled with Spirit?  Alignment with Divine Energy is what empowers us.

Time to take up Power, the 32nd Law. There are so many kinds of Power in the world and much of it is generated by the elements; wind Power, wave power, solar power and nuclear power. This month you will study human Power primarily, while carrying this Law through the Four Directions on the Wheel. As you examine the Powers of the mind, the heart, the body and the spirit, think about which kind of Power seems most appealing to you, and why.

Last month you learned about the Law of Pure Potential and now it is time to apply those lessons. Once you realize your Potential, the next step is to act upon it. Power is about the embodiment of Pure Potential.

The Law of Power is on the West side of the Wheel, where the Earth, the body and the material aspects of life are represented. This reminds you to look at how Power works. You might not notice the Power of Power until you can see its physical aspects, although Power comes in many other forms.

While our spirits are in our bodies, we have the Power to act, and accomplish things in the material world for instance. We can literally embody what we’ve envisioned. Ultimately, if we are using Power wisely, what actually happens is that spiritual Power is working through us.

Many great people have attributed their accomplishments to a Higher Power working through them. The Wisdom Wheel itself is an example of this. I received the gift of its invention after praying to better understand my work and my Higher Purpose. The Power of the Wheel is far greater than the mind of one person. I know it came from beyond me and my little personality. It is an expression of Power that human beings are not capable of on their own.  

The problems with Power come from the difficulty of wielding it wisely while we are in human form. When we use Power we are filtering it; through our thoughts and emotions, our egos and our ignorance. What’s in our filters increases our Potential to use Power for the wrong Purposes. Temptation corrupts us as we don’t always sort through our motives and intentions before using our Power.

Take two forms of emotional Power for instance, Love and fear. Each creates different results. When we are ego-driven we are more likely to resort to the Power of fear. Those who are spirit-led tend to be guided more often by Love. How much wisdom is required to distinguish between those whose Power is spirit-led versus those who are ego-driven?

Power puts a great fork in the road. Our paths in life are determined by our decisions about Power. This month while carrying this Law, take look a deeper look at your motives. What kind of Power is motivating your Choices? You can put your actions, or anyone else’s on the Wheel, to examine what sort of Power is behind them.

Love is about expansion for instance while fear contracts. Fear-based Power comes from the ‘me’ of the ego trying to protect itself. This reptilian part of the brain is the most territorial, and most easily frightened part of us. It operates at the survival level of instinctual need, and therefore seeks to defend, dominate and control. Reacting to perceived or real threats to its physical survival, the ego focuses on the basics (see Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs); food, water and shelter. Whoever or whatever determines the availability of those things gets the ego’s attention. Ego is always measuring and comparing, fearing any potential lack, which it tries to avoid.

Spirit on the other hand operates from the opposite end of this spectrum. It comprehends the smallness and pettiness of the ego, and can smile at its fearfulness with Compassion (the next Law). Spiritual Power balances all that. The Power of Spirit radiates Love, ceaselessly and abundantly, offering itself without fear of rejection, refusal or reprisal. Allowing, opening, expanding, encouraging and empowering, spiritual Power brings with it the energy necessary to accomplish remarkable things, like creating the universe.

Fear says, Come to me & I will make you safe.

Power resides beneath the ‘umbrella’ of Higher Purpose on the Wheel, the place of healing and Healers, Death & Rebirth, Dreams & Intuition and the Goes-Within-Place.  This position offers some powerful clues about real Power and how it works. “Our greatest power comes from our deepest wound,” writes Linda S. Leonard in her book The Wounded Woman.

This quote encapsulates the double-edged sword of Power. We have both Powers; we can be victim or victimizer, we can harm or to heal, others as well as ourselves. We have all been wounded; from broken hearts to broken bones. What we do about our wounds reveals our relationship with Power. When we use Power wisely, Right Action it results in Right Action.    

The Balance of Power is described on the Wheel where the Law of Courage balances Power. Courage is needed to Balance Power, whether you are dealing with your own Power or that of others. Revisit the quadrants and notice how they represent the Universal Powers. The more you know about these Powers, the better your relationship will be with this Law. Learn to work with Power, instead of feeling it is being used against you. May the Force be with you…. The Power of Balance, the Power of Awareness, the Power of Self and so on.

Everyone has access to these Powers although few will work to understand them. The negating of Power chooses victim-hood and martyrdom while those who act in spiritually powerfully ways transform the energy in this world. Take the negative Power of war and violence for example. Who has transmuted that kind of energy?

Gandhi did. He and his followers learned to use Power for Right Action in ways which continue to empower the rest of us. They put their physical bodies on the line, time after time, for the sake of Higher Purpose, and proved conclusively that non-violent, non-cooperation is a viable alternative.

If you haven’t already seen the Attenborough film about Gandhi’s life, watch it this month. You will see the reenactment of his march to the sea to gather salt. When his followers were blocked by armed troops they pressed on through the gauntlet of club-wielding soldiers, suffering countless blows. Their stoicism impressed the perpetrators of the violence so much, they ceased to beat them, unable to stomach the effects of their own violence.

Violence can make men feel virile, so an equally powerful counterweight is needed, to induce behavioral change. The preference for physical Power can be balanced by a spiritual awakening. To change consciousness, the conscience must be awoken, and even the ‘enemy’ must be enlightened by example. Gandhi did this. The Power of spirit, embodied in his philosophy, was able to respond to the daily challenges of life in India under British occupation.

Evolved souls reveal how spiritual Power works, and how energy can be transformed.  Whether transforming water into wine, sickness into health or war into peace, the presence of Power is required. The lessons of Gandhi, Jesus and other Teachers of Wisdom and Oneness, echo on for centuries. The source of their Power was genuinely spiritual. As you review your experiences with Power this month, examine any time you shied away from Power. Resolve to be better prepared the next time Power calls you.
